Aims and research scope

Τhe international Special Interest Group (SIG) D.EL.EXO. was founded in 2022. It is affiliated to the Centre for the Greek Language.

The focus of D.EL.EXO. is on the teaching of Greek worldwide. It aims to foster an international forum for critical reflection and discussion and the sharing of research on the teaching of Greek worldwide. It unites scholars working across a range of theoretical and methodological perspectives.

Aims

The main aims of D.EL.EXO. are to:

  • Establish a network of scholars researching the teaching of Greek worldwide, with the purpose of promoting the dissemination of research, supporting research collaborations, and facilitating communication for early career researchers.
  • Build strong links between research and policy, engage with policy actors and contribute to language in education policy debates.
  • Create strong connections between research and practice and the development of collaborations between researchers and practitioners.
  • Generate new knowledge, which engages with and extends international research on language education and multilingualism.
  • Promote institutional collaborations (with ministries, embassies and consular services, federations, communities, associations, research centres), strengthen and coordinate more effectively research on the teaching of Greek worldwide.
  • Encourage a co-focus on language issues alongside other forms of cultural expression (e.g., literature, music, dance, song, tradition, religion), which coexist with or are also cultivated through language.
  • Support the teaching of Greek as an international language.
  • Build a network of support and mentoring for early career researchers.

Research scope

The research scope of D.EL.EXO. includes but is not limited to:

  • Community-based schools and cultural institutions.
  • Community/complementary/heritage schools and other forms of Greek language education abroad with or without formal recognition by educational authorities.
  • International/European schools, charter schools, independent schools, etc.
  • Higher Education.
  • Any form of Greek language education abroad (e.g., distance learning, private tutoring) and the teaching of Greek as an international language.
